Audi Sport:

Transferring technologies from the race track to the road. Exhilarating performance, from works motorsport through customer racing to high-performance road-going models – this is where the adrenaline really gets pumping! The expertise gained in the world of motorsport is applied in the RS and R8 models, allowing cutting-edge racing technologies to be introduced in production vehicles too. With unparalleled passion, for breathtaking dynamism.

Audi R8 Coupé and Audi R8 Spyder

Lightweight construction with no compromises and unadulterated performance are two outstanding characteristics of the Audi R8 in both Coupé and Spyder guise. An all-aluminium body built around the Audi Space Frame (ASF)® design principle reduces the vehicle’s weight while sharpening its agility and dynamism. Parts made from carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) add to this effect. The characteristic mid-engined configuration and the quattro® permanent all-wheel drive ensure optimum distribution of drive power. The customised dual-clutch transmission makes no secret of the car’s racing pedigree either: the 7-speed S tronic unit performs gearshifts in a few fractions of a second, with virtually no interruption in power flow.

The Audi RS models

The Audi RS models fuse power and dynamism on the one hand with impressive functionality and everyday practicality on the other. The quattro® permanent all-wheel drive forms one of the highlight features of the RS models. First conceived for rallying and constantly improved ever since, this drive concept excels with its blend of supreme stability, traction and dynamism. Internally ventilated and perforated wave-design brake discs provide impressive braking performance together with an additional weight saving. The package is completed by specially tuned RS sport suspensions built for highly dynamic handling – with outstanding roadholding even when taking corners at speed.

Works racing

The inauguration of the FIA WEC in 2012 filled a gap in the international motor racing calendar, and Audi has already racked up a series of achievements in the first 24 months of this new world championship event. It’s not just the variation in race strategies that makes endurance racing so exciting to watch – the cars competing in this championship are at the vanguard of technology, too, as nowhere else can such a wide array of innovations be implemented. The new technical regulations introduced in 2014 put even greater focus on the efficiency of the sports car prototypes. Consequently, the Audi R18 e-tron quattro now has to record its sensational lap times while consuming far less energy: an approach that clearly points the way forward. The Audi R18 e-tron quattro that came in first at the 2014 Le Mans race burned 22% less fuel than its predecessor in 2013. Audi excels time and time again in the DTM German Touring Car Championship, too. This race series has been thrilling motor racing fans both in Germany and around the world for over 30 years now. In the 2013 season, an Audi driver was crowned champion for the ninth time in total when Audi once again took the drivers’ and team titles in the DTM.

Audi Sport customer racing

When Audi made its customer motor racing debut in early 2009, eleven other car manufacturers had already homologated GT3 race cars. The motorsport experts at the Audi Sport customer racing department are able to provide the R8 LMS and R8 LMS ultra for racing purposes. The R8 LMS in GTD guise competes in races in America, while the R8 LMS ultra (GT3 version) can be seen in action not just in Europe, but in Asia and Australia too. The race car shares over 50 percent of its technology with the production model. During the 2013 season, Audi customers lined up for a total of 272 individual races in 26 different countries. The R8 LMS and R8 LMS ultra have a highly successful track record: since 2009, the Audi customer sport specialist has amassed 24 championship titles in all. The long list of successes also includes the overall victories at this season’s 24 hour races at the Nürburgring and at Spa in Belgium, which served to further underline the vehicle’s winning qualities and intense power.
